A certain moon of Uranus. Its geology is a chaotic record of destruction and rebirth, signifying a tiny moon trying to find its way around an off-axis, retrograde world. It always reminds me of you, Miranda. I wonder why.
Dear Miranda,
In response to your query, I haven’t been out East since the disaster. Nevertheless, I’m not a hermit, at least not yet, and I even wandered down to the town in the valley this morning. I was feeling spiritually weak, so I stopped by a local Quaker meeting for morning worship.
Fine, you know me too well. I am not that good of a person. I stopped there because the speaker was somewhat attractive.
They spoke of mankind’s relentless pursuit of happiness, and how that desire is unlikely to be fulfilled in this world. It reminded me of when I used to read Lewis as a child. In the silence that followed I tried to make sense of my confusion, but tumultuous sea of thoughts in my head prevented any useful epiphany.
Perhaps if we could speak, facie ad faciem, my confusion would be lessened.
Sincerely,
S
